• Bronze gallery: Shang and Zhou dynasty vessels (1600–256 BCE) you can't see assembled this densely anywhere else.

• Calligraphy & painting: rotating masterpieces — check what's on display the day you go.
• Jade & sculpture: quieter galleries worth a slow loop.

After you leave

• People's Square: the surrounding plaza has the urban-planning hall and the "matchmaking corner" on weekends if you're curious.
• Combine: walk to Nanjing Road or the Bund afterwards — both are short rides or walks away.
• Monday trap: if your only free day is Monday, swap the museum for the Shanghai Tower or Yu Garden.
