Seven days gives Shanghai its real advantage: flexible indoor and outdoor days. Keep museums, performance tickets and Zhujiajiao fixed only when necessary; move the free city walks around rain, humidity and tower visibility.

DAY 1

Old city to the Bund

Yu Garden → old Shanghai → Bund lights → East Nanjing Road.

Use the paid garden early, then follow one walk to the river and wait for dusk. Keep valuables closed and refuse unsolicited tea, art or nightlife invitations.

DAY 2

Museum and Pudong

Correct museum venue → People's Square → Lujiazui → public ferry or metro.

Confirm the branch and booking, then use one clear-sky observatory. Keep the river crossing simple and never buy a second tower out of fear of missing out.

DAY 3

Former French Concession

Wukang/Anfu → Sinan → Tianzifang → Xintiandi.

Start early on residential streets, use short metro hops between clusters and end at Xintiandi. Photograph architecture without blocking homes or cycle traffic.

DAY 4

Literary Hongkou

Lu Xun Park → memorial → Duolun Road → Postal Museum → north Bund.

Check museum closure days, begin with the park's morning life and walk south through literature and postal history. Finish beside Waibaidu Bridge without crossing to Pudong again.

Save: 鲁迅公园, 多伦路文化名人街, 上海邮政博物馆 and 外白渡桥.

DAY 5

Zhujiajiao

Early Line 17 → bridges and lanes → one official canal boat → return.

Travel before the largest groups, clarify which individual sites charge and board only an official boat with a known route and final pier. Return with margin before the last practical connection.

Canal, stone bridge and traditional buildings in Zhujiajiao — Zhujiajiao is the one day when the metro journey leads out of the high-rise city into a canal-town rhythm.

DAY 6

Jing'an and contemporary Shanghai

Jing'an Temple → West Nanjing Road → M50 or Suzhou Creek → evening food.

08:00 — Jing'an Temple

Dress respectfully, follow photography signs and confirm current entry rather than relying on the map's printed price. Avoid fortune tellers or incense sellers outside the official area.

11:30 — West Nanjing Road

Use the commercial district for lunch and contrast, then choose one afternoon: M50 for contemporary galleries or a Suzhou Creek walk for industrial riverfront history.

Evening — one reservation only

Choose a restaurant or performance with a clear address and cancellation policy. Keep the day west of the Bund.

DAY 7

Flexible Shanghai

Weather swap → missed museum → favourite neighbourhood → departure preparation.

Morning — repair the week

Use this day for a museum closed earlier, a clear-sky tower, a rainy-day swap or the district you wanted to revisit. Do not add a distant excursion simply to fill the calendar.

Afternoon — practical finish

Collect tax-refund documents if applicable, buy gifts from transparent shops and rest before the airport. Verify PVG versus SHA, terminal, train station and passport name.

Evening — stay close

Have a final Shanghainese meal near the hotel and pack before rush-hour transfers become tomorrow's problem.

Best use: swap Day 7 with Zhujiajiao in rain or with Lujiazui when visibility is poor.
