DAY 1

Gardens & the old town

Keep everything on foot in the historic core.

Morning — Humble Administrator's Garden

Arrive at opening time with the passport used for your booking. The Humble Administrator's Garden is the largest and most famous of Suzhou's classical gardens, and it deserves unhurried hours rather than a quick photo stop.

Afternoon — Suzhou Museum

The museum is in the same part of the old town, so pair it with the garden. Check its current opening rules before you leave the hotel — it is popular and can be closed on certain days.

Evening — Pingjiang Road

Wander the canal-side historic street with its tea houses, bookshops and Suzhou snacks. Keep the evening slow instead of adding another ticketed sight; save your hotel name in Chinese before leaving Wi-Fi.

DAY 2

Tiger Hill & Shantang Street

One hill in the morning; a canal street for the afternoon.

Morning — Tiger Hill (Huqiu)

Go in the morning when it is cooler and calmer. Tiger Hill is Suzhou's most famous scenic spot outside the old town — a leaning pagoda and gardens on a small hill.

Afternoon — Shantang Street (山塘街)

Head to Shantang Street, a canal-side historic street, for lunch and a slow walk. If you still have energy, Lingering Garden is the optional stop — smaller than the Humble Administrator's Garden and often considered the more refined.

Evening — dinner near your base

Choose a restaurant close to your hotel or along your metro line. Leave space to rest; the next day is a full day out to the water town.

DAY 3

Zhouzhuang water town

A full day out to the canals; overnight optional.

Morning — travel to Zhouzhuang (周庄)

Zhouzhuang is roughly 38 km southwest of Suzhou city centre. Take a bus of about 1 hour from Suzhou, or high-speed rail to Kunshan South (昆山南) then a bus or taxi.

Afternoon — the town

Wander the Twin Bridges (双桥), Shen Hall (沈厅) and Zhang Hall (张厅), and take a gondola-style rowing boat along the canals. A half day covers the sights; a full day lets you slow down.

Evening — lights, then return

Stay for the evening lights if your schedule allows, then head back to Suzhou — or stay overnight in the town to see it without the day-trippers.
